Advance Information 2022
Y11 and Y13 Advance Information for Examinations 2022
This year the Department for Education has decided to release some advance information about the content within the examinations for 2022. The exam board regulator Ofqual gave the exam boards these guiding principles:
- It must not be possible to guess an exam question from the materials provided
- It must not narrow the curriculum as students will need this learning to progress to the next level
- It must not prevent exam boards being able to differentiate between candidates
For a few subjects no advanced information has been provided e.g. GCSE English Literature, History and Geography. This is because in these subjects an element of choice on the exam has already been introduced for this summer.
For all other subjects this advance information consists of topic lists to indicate the high tariff questions or main topics on the exam papers this summer. The purpose of this information is to support your child with their revision. It is not a list to indicate what should and should not be taught. All topics are expected to be taught and there could be questions on any element of the course.
Each subject within each exam board describes the list in slightly different ways. However, in all cases this will help teachers and students prepare for the exams more easily.
The advanced information provided will be more helpful for some subjects than for others. Please be reassured that this will not make it easier or harder to get a good grade in one subject over another, as the grade boundaries for these subjects will be adjusted to take this into account.
Below you will find a copy of the specific advance information that has been provided for each subject. The document BW Awarding Bodies and Advance Information provides a useful summary of all the subjects and details of whether advance information has been provided.
On Thursday 10th February we held a virtual information evening and a recording of this is available below. You will also find below a list of FAQs from that evening.
The regulator Ofqual has also produced this helpful Subject by subject support for GCSE, AS and A level students in 2022
